About
Boldró is the surf bay just north of Cacimba do Padre on Fernando de Noronha’s main island. The break runs across roughly half a kilometre of coast with a mix of sand and reef sections; rights and lefts spread across multiple peaks, gentler and slower than Cacimba’s signature barrel because the bottom is more forgiving and the bay sits a touch off the direct line of the heaviest swells. It is the lineup the island goes to when Cacimba is closing out or when the longboard crew wants room.
The break wants north-north-west swell at nine seconds or longer and 0.4 to 2.5 metres of size. The window is wider than Cacimba’s — anything from west-north-west through north puts something on the bank, and the smaller bands run in the one to three foot range from April through November for longboard sessions. Mid tide is the cleanest setting, with the reef sections opening up as the tide drops. Wind is the east-south-east trade by mid-morning, cross-shore here as well, and the dawn or the south-south-east offshore is what lights the bay up. Season is December through March, peak February.
Intermediate to advanced terrain on the reef sections; the sand peaks are friendlier and where most of the visiting traffic lands. Hazards are the standard reef story — exposed rock at low tide, fins-on-coral if you misjudge the inside, and a current that follows the bay’s curvature toward Praia da Conceição on a falling tide. Crowd is meaningfully lighter than Cacimba on the same swell, which is half the reason locals pick it. The water is twenty-eight degrees year-round.
